In Memorandum My Mother, Shirley Mae (O'Connell)
Linderman, aged 73, passed away in Maine over Thanksgiving weekend. My condolences go out to her husband, Les Linderman, and
to all those who remember her with fondness. Rest in Peace, Mom.
A GATHERING OF GORDONS!
Do you descend from old Alex?
Back in mid July, in our clan's "hometown"
of Exeter, New Hampshire dozens of descendants
of Olde Alex met on a sunny Saturday by the river.
Check out the Gordon Reunion page for more pics!
All who trace their roots back
to Olde Alexander were welcome, and we were treated to
a grand surprise: Marion Gordon, author of 'Alexander Gordon and his Descendants' joined us and chatted away for hours as
we all lined up to thank her with hugs and handshakes! Congrats, and thanks, to Merle Gordon for an amazingly successful
event!

Katie Gordon, Marian Otis, and Mike Gordon enjoy themselves
at the 2007 Gathering of Gordons in Exeter - a fine time was had by all!

Our Gordon line starts in the New World
with Alexander Gordon, b. ca. 1630 - 1635 in Scotland. Captured at the battle of Worcester on September 3rd 1651, he remained
a prisoner of war until sold into indentured servitude and transported to Massachusetts. After a decade as little more
than a slave, he gained his freedom in a court of law, and in 1663 he married Mary Lysson (Lisson, Listen) in Exeter
NH. They had at least 55 grandchildren, most of whom married and raised families in southern NH and Maine.
I spend some of my genealogy time searching out their burial sites and stones. So far, the oldest stone we've identified is
that of Alexander's grandson Nathaniel (#19 in AGD) in the Gordon Hill Cemetery in Exeter. The historical record indicates
there are older Gordon burials here, probably Alexander's son Thomas who owned this land. My plan for this website is to post
photos of the old stones I find, with the location and citation number from "Alexander Gordon and his Descendants" (aka AGD)
by Marian Otis. All of us who descend from ole Alex owe her a great deal of thanks. An unexpected, and delightful, consequence
of putting this site together has been connecting with newfound cousins. I'm sure ole Alexander is smiling down on us!

I have recently been given my beloved aunt Connie's
corespondance with Marian Otis and her original
1973 copy (#33 of a printing of 100 copies) by my
very generous cousin Gloria.

I want to thank everyone who keet rooting for me as I battled with HTML, digital cameras, Tripod's
very best customer service people, and "simple" software instructions written in geek. Your patience, support, and encouragement,
are the main reason this page exists today.
I am very glad to let you know that I'm turning over the web-master chores to a highly skilled and
amazingly intelligent descendant of Alexander -
William Wesley Gordon.

GoogleEarth shows a Gordon Point on the Saco River
in Biddeford. It is near where I believe Joseph and Pike
Gordon were attacked by Indians in 1746, according to my reading of Folsom's History of Saco and Biddeford. I had no notion
that Gordon Point was a place name, let alone that it was a name that would be listed on GoogleEarth! It's about one mile
down river from Factory Island, across the river from Laurel Hill Cemetery. Can anyone tell us why it was named Gordon
Point? Map:

WANTED
Gordons from Scotland

Wouldn't it be amazing to find a
connection between those who stayed
and those who went to the New World?

NEW Gordon DNA Project results suggest that
our Alexander Gordon line
descends from Sir William Gordon, Laird of Strathbogie (now
Huntly) - born c. 1295 Progeneitor of the Gordon Houses of Kenmore and Lochinvar.
New found Cousin
Tim has published his Alexander tree via a very cool Wiki-type
format, you really should check it out! http://en.rodovid.org/wk/Person:63028
George W. Gordon served in the
CW with his 1st cousin Henry - and a descendant of Henry has just reconnected to our line! This is a descent *not* listed
in Otis, and he has a great pic of Old Henry.
